Dowry System ~paragraph

Dowry system isn’t a good system.Dowry means property or money brought by a bride to her husband when they get married. Now days the system of giving and taking dowry in marriage has struck deeper roots in Bangladesh. Almost in every class either poor or rich section, this problem is prevalent. Usually women in our society are considered inferior to the male. They are though to be of no use to the family. They can hardly bring any types of change for the society or for the country. So during marriage ceremony a section of greedy people claim much wealth or money from the guardians of the brides.
The poor and illiterate girls mainly become the victim of dowry. It the guardians fail to meet up the demand of their bridegrooms, they misbehave with their wives and sometimes torture them seriously. As a result many of them get divorced or commit suicide or are killed by their husbands. At present a father can not think of the marriage of his daughter without giving dowry to the bridegroom. With the passage of time this problem has become silent disease. It is an inhuman torture. Both educated and uneducated guardians fall a victim to it. Though day by day our education system is improving, this problem can not be eradicated. There are many causes behind this problem. First of all our narrow mentality is mainly responsible. Side by side our so-called existing social custom, illiteracy, poverty and weak feelings towards the bridegrooms are also responsible. Parents also think that if many things are presented to the bridegrooms, their daughters will feel better in their in laws house. Their sons in law also love them much. So, this prevailing problem needs to be solved by any means. First of all our narrow mentality should be changed. The second thing to be done to stop this malpractice is to raise awareness among all. This awareness can be raised by mass media like television, radio, newspaper etc. The government can also take steps by enforcing law. Last of all, we have to accept the brides as a divine gift to our families not as a means to acquire property. It this mentality develops among us, this so-called problem will be removed.
